The mission of Joshua Tree National Park is to preserve, protect and interpret the park's historical, cultural, natural and wilderness values; and to promote public understanding by providing compatible recreational and educational opportunities consistent with the park's values.

Joshua Tree National Park offers ranger-led education programs for students K-12, families and the public in general. Programs for students visiting the park include the natural history programs 'Healthy Habitats' (grades 1-2), 'Geologic Teenagers, the Rocks of Joshua Tree NP', 'Desert Adaptations' (grades 5-6), and 'The Joshua Tree Hotel' (grades 3-4). Cultural history programs include 'They Called the Desert Home' (grade 3), 'Living in Harmony With the Environment' (grade 4), and 'Homesteaders and Goldminers' (grade 5). Classroom presentations include 'Who Lives in the National Park?' (pre-K -K), 'Who's Who and What's What' (grades 3-4), and 'People Who Make a Difference'. The Park also offers a junior ranger program (grades 3-6), teacher's guides and a desert issues curriculum (available winter 1998), workshops including Project WILD, and Study Kits.
